what is your country's policy on immigration? Would you want to be an immigrant in your country? why or why not?

Nowadays, the policy on immigration is not so strict in Laos. There have been some loopholes in the government system. Many immigrants are coming each year. In a way, it is good, but in a way it creates more problems into the society such as robbery. However, several immigrants came and reboot our economy especially some Vietnamese and Chinese people doing business in Laos. I would not really want to be an immigrant in my country because a lot of immigrants in Laos don’t have civil rights. Other than that, there is little discrimination too. Many poor immigrants were looked down while the riches are considered respectful. Most people immigrating to Laos expect to have a better life. So those people are inspired to work harder by being victims of discrimination. Generally speaking, immigration in Laos is still an issue for the government to either abolish or allow.

  4. In my opinion, I don't think people would immigrant to Laos nowadays. This is because the labor cost is pretty low. Neither does Malaysia though, because Singapore has become their first choice.

  5. I like your phrase "Working harder by being the victims of discrimination". We have the same situation here in Thailand. Those immigrants who have well-beings get respect from the society but for those who moved to Thailand for better life are looked down. The worse thing is that they (Thai) feel Caucasian people are superior even though they haven't known them.

  6. I personally think that its a big problem when so many people try to immigrate to Laos. I can imagine that many people from Laos are worrying about their jobs when you have so many immigrants? Are there many people without jobs in Laos?

  7. Yes, we have 2.4% of unemployment rate in 2005 est. But I think it will be increasing nowsaday due to the global financial crisis. A lot of people have lost their jobs.

  9. @Eng Hwa: You are probably right. But in some way, I still think that a lot of people are immigrating to Laos. One of the reason I guess is that we have a lot more spaces or less populated cities.
